The Amazing River Run

Sophia ran her first Fun Run on Oct 1oth at her school. It was a fundraiser the school does to help promote fitness and to raise money.

At first she didn't want me to run it with her. Not sure why, but I think it's because everyone always says "Hello Mrs. Kaminski" when they see me and I know she doesn't like being the center of attention. At least, that's what I'm choosing to believe. It couldn't possibly be because I embarrass her. :)

Boy was she glad I was with her when it started....we almost got trampled by the people behind us.

She alternated between running and walking (it was a one mile race). She was excited to get a medal for finishing.

Way to go Sophia!

Super Citizen

The end of the 1st 6 weeks brought a special honor to Sophia. She was chosen as Super Citizen for her class (a boy was also chosen).

And yes, she chose to style her hair this way once she got to school. I had fixed it to her liking when we left for school but once I got to the ceremony at 9:15....it looked like this. :)

Girl Scouts Field Trip: Euless Police Station

A couple of weeks ago, Sophia brought home a flier from school about girl scouts and said she wanted to join. So I called up my friend Joanne to see if they had any spaces (I worked with her at Wilshire and knew she was active in it with her girls). Sure enough, they had a spot! Daisies is the name of what the kinder and 1st graders do.

On Monday night, we went on our first girl scout field trip to the Euless Police Station.

Our tour guide, Officer Burnett I believe was very nice.

The girls had TONS of questions.

We got to tour the entire facility including the jail and 911 call center.

This is their kitchen. This is their deep freeze that contains all of the food for the inmates. It's essentially a holding facility. Their max stay might be 3 days...so they just feed them Banquet tv dinners.

Hopefully this will be Sophia's only introduction to a jail!
