Today we had Sophia's 2nd piano recital. Nana, Paw-Paw, Uncle Brice and Aunt Cynthia came out to watch.
Let me just say that we were running WAY late due to me actually styling my hair. That's why I always wear pony tails. My hair is just too darn thick!
So we got there with 2 minutes to spare. I hate rushing! Before Sophia, I was never running late for anything. I was always early. My how things change.
Once we got there, Sophia started tearing up. She was getting nervous. She didn't want me to leave her side. Once I was able to talk her down (from the ledge), I made my way to join the other parents.
Here's Ms. Kay giving them some last minute advice/coaching.
They started out with Chopsticks with these boomwacker sticks.
I was just proud that she wasn't in tears and actually got up there to do her thang!
Sophia was the 2nd one to perform.
She had 2 numbers to do, Twinkle, Twinkle and Yankee Doodle.
Sophia stealth whispered "My name is Sophia and I'd like to play Twinkle, Twinkle".
Yes, and I'm sure you noticed the skirt underneath her dress....her choice and we didn't feel like arguing that morning. We were already running late and she matched...kinda.
Unfortunately, Ms. Kay forgot the keyboard they use in class which has the keys labeled. According to Ms. Kay they can all read the music and find the corresponding key. I would not know, as I'm not musically inclined (played piano in 1st grade? and didn't like it...too much sitting).
Now time for Yankee Doodle.
She did it! She just got up in a room full of people and played some music! Russell was in charge of video and just informed me that his video card was corrupted so we have no video of it. Dang!
Taking a bow!
Now she just has to wait for the rest to perform.
All of her friends taking a final bow.....
I asked Sophia if she wants to continue to take piano lessons after she leaves Ms. Melanie's and starts kindergarten and she said yes. After some advice from my musical expert, Mrs. Green (my teammate at school, our music teacher, she agreed that piano is the way to go when they're young). I had asked Mrs. Green because Sophia had told me she wanted to sing like the people on American Idol and asked me if I could teach her. LOL! Sophia really loves music so I guess we'll see how it goes.
On a different note, I've been asking Sophia what sport or activity she really wants to do and she said basketball. After checking into that, they don't have much for her age group right now (I think, Amy and Robin let me know if I'm wrong on that one). She also wants to do dance (which we'll start this summer). And swim lessons....she's already so comfortable in the water. Now it's time for some formal training. And today at On the Border, after her recital, she informed me she wants to be a ninja, like Atticus. So we'll have to see about that. :)
I'm so proud of you Sophia! You are so brave! I know I couldn't have done what you did today.

How exciting!! I love her smile after Twinkle Twinkle! Gooo Sophia!!
That's my favorite picture too! This is a huge thing, I hated recitals and realize my heart has been pounding as I read! Good on you, Sophia!!!
Way to go, Sophia! That's a lot of pressure. I can imagine how proud (and nervous!) you and Russell must have been. Oh my...how fun would it be to have her in "ninja" class with Atticus?! She's got a wide variety of interests right now...good for her!
