Arrival In New York/Niagara Falls

So onto our New York trip.....
We left on Thurs. June 27th at 7:30 am. We flew into Detroit, Michigan and from there, flew to Buffalo, New York. We were picked up from the airport by Grandpa and Grandma K and headed for Niagara Falls.

It was a little rainy but we were still able to walk around and enjoy it.

I think Sophia had more fun playing with the umbrella than looking at the falls.

You can travel down to the bottom but it's super wet  and you have to pay for that (they give you these slickers and special shoes to wear). We were fine with the free portion.

This is Goat Island.
And this is the bridge to Goat Island.

Sophia got her umbrella taken away because she kept accidentally hitting us with it.

We decided to cross the bridge and head to Goat Island.

The water was amazingly powerful. The last time were here was in December 1998 and a lot of it was frozen and we were too.

We did see some ducks hanging out in a more calm part of the river.

"No more pictures mom!"

After Niagara, we headed towards Olean, NY which is about 2 hours away. After stopping for dinner, I think we ended up arriving at their house around 7 pm. It was a very long day, but we were glad we got to see Niagara, even if it rained off and on. The temps were amazing...low 80's.

June Birthdays

We are finally back from New York so I'm trying to get caught up on laundry and blog posts. Before I delve into the New York trip, I wanted to finish off Sophia's birthday stuff.

While in the car on the way home from swim lessons (during her birthday week) Sophia said "You know what's strange mom? We didn't have a birthday party at Nana and Paw-Paw's house (each month we throw a family party for the birthday recipients that month)". With her kid party, Father's Day weekend, and then Russell being out of town for a golf trip, I just kind of forgot about that. I mean she already had her presents from her Nana and Paw-Paw and her cousins. But, then, when I was trying to explain why she asked, "Did we have a birthday party at Nana and Paw-Paw's for your birthday?". Ouch! Yep, we did. I'm thinking this girl needs to go to law school.

So after I spoke with my family, we decided to have desserts and a swim party minus the big lunch (the kids never appreciate that anyways).

So I proudly introduce, the June birthday family pictures....

Sophia opened up her gift from her cousin Jack (and Aunt Amy and Uncle Jay). They were on vacation for her kid party. She was super excited to have a Barbie beauty prep kit.

And Jack was excited to open the card Sophia made for him that morning.

Sophia couldn't wait to get to work on Aunt Robin's hair with her beauty case.

And of course sweet Nana had some gift bags for the 2 honorees even though she'd already given them their gifts. Always such a giver....

Cake time!

Nana made 2 separate cakes for these two kiddos. One chocolate and one vanilla. She also had ice cream and root beer float fixings.

Swim time!
As I mentioned earlier in another post. Sophia has just taken off as a swimmer.

If she gets tired or winded, she comes up for air and floats on her back.

Ice cream time!

Happy birthday June Bugs! We LOVE you!
