Sophia's First Piano Recital

Sophia's first piano recital was tonight. She's been taking lessons every Tues. since September. I'd seen recordings of her playing that her teacher, Mrs. Kay, records for the parents. But had never seen her play in person. You can't always tell what she's playing and many times, doesn't play the whole song by herself. But I have to say, I was really proud of her tonight. I mean, getting up in front of a bunch of people, most who you don't even know....sends chills down my spine. I hate that kinda stuff.
Sophia was getting really nervous before the performance began. Here she is with her PK buddies Thomas (center) and Cale (right). Cale says he's going to marry Sophia.

In fact, she was getting so nervous, that I had to push her towards the stage when it was her turn. I was so afraid she was just going to cry and "shut down". But to my amazement, and with a little coaxing from Mrs. Kay, she played her little heart out.

Sophia was too shy to introduce herself or her song so Mrs. Kay did it for her. She played E-I-E-I-O and D Chord.

The PK students played on this keyboard because that's what they use at their lessons at Ms. Melanie's house. Mrs. Kay's other students who come to her house, played on a regular piano.

She was really brave and finished both pieces. I was surprised when Mrs. Kay was telling us that all the PK students can read music, even Sophia (she's the youngest). Mrs. Kay must be a really good teacher. Sophia loves her and playing the piano, so that's all that really matters.

Lucky for us, the PK students and parents got to leave right after all 8 PK students played. So we didn't have to sit through the entire recital.

And thanks to her cheering section filled with Aunt Robin, cousin Koby, cousin Will, Nana and Paw-Paw. We love you and glad you came!

Our Memorial Day

Happy Memorial Day y'all! Our celebrating began this Sunday at my parent's house. So as you can imagine, it was full of good food and fun in the sun (using sunscreen of course).

And as you can imagine, Sophia had a ton of fun with her aunts, uncles, cousins and last but not least, Nana and Paw-Paw.

Uncle Jay and Aunt Amy brought over their game of Corn Hole. If you've never played, it is actually quite fun and addicting. Basically it's a cross between horse shoes and bean bag toss (except the bags are filled with corn).

The kids had fun watching.

Sophia was having a great time until we told her it was time to go. She of course didn't want to leave.

Those eyes get me every time! Just glad she didn't start with the lip. :)

Our First Crawfish Boil

We were invited to our first craw fish boil ever this Saturday. Our friends, through Sophia's PK, had invited us over for their annual event. Sophia was a little hesitant at first.
But a swing ride later, she was fine.

Until she let go and landed fast down in the grass. Luckily, it was a soft landing. She shook it off and went right on playing.

There's the cook, Brandon.

And there are the craw fish.
Sophia wasn't very receptive to them. Apparently, she prefers snakes and fish.

I'll be honest, I have no idea how to peel a craw fish so I made Russell do it for me. Bless you Russell! Otherwise, I'd have been covered from head to toe in craw fish mess.

It was fun but HOT  out there! The craw fish were yummy. It felt like I was in the movie Steel Magnolias.

One Crazy Weekend

Before I blog about our weekend, I forgot to add these pics of Sophia from last week. She was one lucky girl and got a present from her best bud's mom and dad (Atticus), straight from Hawaii. Gotta love her hula dance.

Thanks Tricia and Apollo!

Now to the crazy part of our weekend. About 2 weeks ago, I noticed a lump, growth, whatever you want to call it in my under arm area. It kept getting bigger and bigger. It appeared to either be a swollen gland or an ingrown hair. Finally, I got the brilliant idea that I'd poke it with a sterilized needle. I know....brilliant right! That was on Thursday night. Well, apparently poking it with a needle ticked it off because it got really inflamed, sore and continued to swell. That went on until Saturday when I noticed red lines going down my arm. So off to Care Now I went. I'd never been before and it actually wasn't bad. Apparently, it was a cyst that got infected. And poking it with a needle didn't help it. They said they think it's a staph infection (they took sample to culture and see what kind of infection it is). I won't even discuss the ongoing treatment that I'm undergoing. It's just too gross. And DEFINITELY no pics.

Now to the relaxing part of our weekend.....

Visiting with Uncle Brice and Aunt Cynthia

Planting Sophia's peanut plant she started growing at school.

And swimming at Nana and Paw-Paw's.

Thank goodness Paw-Paw was such a good sport to get in the freezing water.

This Week

This week was kind of a sad week for me. We had Donna's retirement party after school on Wednesday. Doesn't Donna look amazing??!! It was sad because it means Donna retiring is actually real. Boo hoo!

The other sad part was seeing this pic above. Do you ever look at a picture of yourself and go "Oh my gosh, is that me"?
Well, I had one of those moments. When I saw this pic, I wanted to cry. I look terrible. I do have to give myself a break though, I had been teaching all day. But so had Donna and she looks great. So I'm going to start working on my appearance a little more.

Donna is holding a mini-book I made for her posted on Kaminski's Creations.

Saturday we spent cooped up in the house, cleaning like maniacs. So we rewarded ourselves with a little park time on Sunday. I promise Tricia and Atticus are there, but my camera battery died shortly after we got there.

After that, we headed to a couple of mattress stores and bought a new mattress for ourselves. After 13 years on the one we currently have, I think it's time. I'm tired of back issues and not sleeping soundly. And the best thing is, it will be delivered tonight!!!! We ended up with the Tempur-pedic Cloud Luxe. Can't wait!!!!
