March at the Kaminski's

At River Trails we celebrated Word Wizard Day. Each child was given a word and they had to dress up as their word. Sophia's word was artistic.

That same day was also the same day that I fell on the ice in our school parking lot (it was the Friday before Spring Break). That Thurs was actually a snow/ice day and we didn't have school. Kinda crazy for Texas. A snow day in March??? And I happened to slip on the only piece of ice in the whole parking lot. In fact, I didn't even see it until after I fell. It was a total wipe out. Feet in the air. Landed on my elbow and then back.

Hitting the concrete cut my arm.

And the cut got infected. By Sunday night, I was miserable. So I went to the dr. on Monday. The cut had gotten infected and I had Cellulitis (a staph infection deep within the tissue of the skin).

So I spent my entire Spring Break resting and going for dr. check ups.

Sophia spent it building tents and forts. And of course bugging the cats.

After Spring Break, we got back into our regular routine of school. Sophia won the chart paper you see below (the teacher drew her name from a hat). You'd have thought Sophia had won the lottery with the excitement over winning. She had to hang it up in her room. SHe added some extra paper to the left so it's a tent under her bed.

We also had Art Show night at school. Sophia picked this work of art to be hung up that night. It's the art room.

Sophia also went to see Frozen on ice with her Girl Scout troop. Russ was kind enough to take her since I didn't think my back could handle sitting that long.

Sophia came home with an Olaf hat, banner, stuffed doll and cup. Pretty much Olaf everything. She pranced around the house with her Olaf gear.

It's at this point that my back is starting to really bother me. I keep going to the chiropractor but the pain always resumes.....to be continued.

Snow!!! Finally!

We finally got some snow days towards the end of February. And Sophia was psyched!

I think she said she was trying to make a snow castle (kind of like a sand castle).

She'd go out and play for a few minutes then come back and defrost for a few (and so on and so on). I had to lay a million towels on the hardwood floors to keep them from getting wet.

Valentine's Day Party at School

One of the perks of teaching at the same school that Sophia attends, is that I can pop in to her various holiday parties. So I was able to pop in and help with her Valentine's party.

They started out painting heart picture frames.

Then they ate some treats.

Then they played a few games. This was my favorite part because I got to see Sophia act like she normally would in class without me watching. It's like she forgot I was there.

Sorry some pics are blurry.

Happy belated Valentine's Day!

Good Times With the Cats

One thing that is timeless with Sophia and our family is the cats. No matter what's going on, they are a part of our lives.

Here Cuppy shared in the loss of Sophia's tooth.

And as much as the cats try to stay away from Sophia. Sometimes, they just can't stay away.

And of course sometimes, Sophia just forces herself upon them
as seen below. She's putting her American girl doll glasses on them. As you can see, Cuppy is much more agreeable than Muffy. Here's Cuppy.

Here's Muffy.....poor cats.

Finally Finishing Up January

I'm finally finishing up my January posts. To close out January, Sophia and I visited the Kimbell Art Museum in Ft. Worth. It was the last day for their special exhibit Faces of Impressionism. Boy was it crowded! Not a good first museum experience for Sophia as far as having space to enjoy each painting. She liked their permanent collection better....way more space and no crowds.

She also lost another tooth.

I'll be moving on to February finally!
