I've said it before, and I'll say it again. Teaching at the same school my daughter attends has great perks, one being that I can pop in to see her receive awards for awards assemblies. We have a wonderful librarian that covered my classes while I popped in.
Here Sophia is with her 2 best friends in her class.
The assembly started out with a song.
Now for the awards....look at how tall Sophia is compared to her classmates, and she's one of the youngest ones. Glad we had her start kinder when we did instead of holding her back. Otherwise, she would have been a giant compared to her classmates.
Sophia got the award for getting 3's (the highest you can get) on every subject, all year long (reading, math, science, social studies, art, music, P.E.).
Then it was time for another song.
Sophia got a medal for reading above grade level. They have levels A-Z. By the end of 1st grade, you should be at level I, so to get a medal you have to read at a J or above. Sophia reads at a level N (by the end of 2nd grade, you should read at a level L). So, needless to say, Sophia is a pretty good reader. She's even reading silently so we can read our own books together.
