Happy Grandparent's Day

This past weekend was pretty low key. Not much happened at the Kaminski household. But on Saturday, Sophia painted a pictures for both sets of grandparents for grandparent's day (and she'd made cards at PK). Then on Sunday, we went out to lunch with Nana and Paw-Paw. We spent the rest of the afternoon over their house. Unfortunately, that time cut into her nap time so she was pretty grumpy the rest of the day. But we enjoyed our visit with family.

Happy Grandparent's Day!

Stretch and Grow

Ms. Melanie was kind enough to take some pics of Sophia's 2nd Stretch and Grow class. She has it every other Thursday. The Thursday she doesn't have it, she has gymnastics. The Stretch and Grow teacher comes to their daycare, but for the gymnastics, they travel to Sunbelt Gymnastics in Grapevine.

She also took some pics of arts and crafts time.

Sophia loves Stretch and Grow time. She especially loves wearing her Stretch and Grow t-shirt.

1st Pre-K Show and Tell and Music Day

Sophia's first show and tell day at Pre-K was this past Tuesday. She was supposed to bring something that starts with the letter A. So after careful consideration (and much input on Facebook from friends), we decided to bring her alligator xylophone. Actually, it worked out pretty great because it was also the first day of music class.
For the first month, they're just doing musical things. Then next month, they start sitting at the piano, individually, and doing an actual piano lesson. Mrs. Kay comes every Tuesday. After so many weeks, Sophia will have a recital where she will actually play something on the piano. I still don't know the time table on that.

Of course, Sophia loved every minute of music class.

And thanks to Ms. Melanie for taking pictures for me!

Pre-Labor Day Festivities

We celebrated Labor Day on Sunday with my family, of course at Nana and Paw-Paw's house. We did the whole lunch and dessert thing before getting ready for the pool. We all knew this could possibly be our last dip in the pool before next Spring (you never know how Texas weather can be). Currently the water was reading at 82 degrees so it was rather chilly due to our recent "cold" front.
And Sophia was ready!!!!

After we realized how chilly the water was (keep in mind we were used to feeling like we were in bath water...pretty warm), my dad decided to heat up the hot tub.

Sophia has been practicing her drinking skills out of real cups recently. We still use primarily sippy cups, especially with milk. But at PK, she's the only one who is still using a sippy cup. She is the youngest after all. And she keeps trying to take the lids off of her sippy cups at school. So Ms. Melanie suggested we start trying to let her drink out of a real cup, like she's started doing with her at school. With water only. No milk.

Finally the hot tub is warm enough!
Unfortunately for Sophia, she hates super warm bath water. So she wanted out pretty quickly.

Next, she tried out her drinking skills on a water bottle. She did pretty well.

Of course, her main focus the whole afternoon was on ice cream. That's the first thing she said once we got outside to go swimming.

After swimming (by the way, this is the first afternoon ever that she did not take ANY nap. And boy did we feel it later), she played on the sit in spin. I remember spinning on these for what seemed like hours during my child hood. Except mine didn't play music.

There were a few accidents along the way.
She had to watch the pro to see how it's really done.
But she eventually got it!
On our actual Labor Day, we stayed home and played it pretty low-key. We went for walks by the lake, painted a little, and went to Walmart (oh joy!). I cooked a crock pot BBQ brisket for dinner. My kind of holiday....relaxing!

A Visit From Uncle Brice and Aunt Cynthia

Saturday afternoon after a good 3 hour nap, Sophia awoke to find her Uncle Brice and Aunt Cynthia there waiting to play with her. And they didn't come empty handed either. They brought her this cool car that runs on its own. It goes forward and backward. It was a big hit!

Sophia was a little shy at first but it didn't take her long to warm up.

There was some racing.

And some reading.

And lots of hugging!

And of course some dancing!

Sophia had a great time and of course did not want to go to bed. We all had a great time and can't wait for another visit.

Atticus! Where are you?

We set up a play date for Sophia with her best bud Atticus this past Saturday morning. We had a "cold" front come through and cool things off enough to where it wasn't a sauna outside. Thank you mother nature!

We got there a little early. You never know how long traffic will take. And of course the whole time Sophia was saying, "Where's Atticus? Atticus! Where are you?". As if he was hiding somewhere. I guess I should preface this with the detail that we drive by this park on the way home each day from her PK and every time we pass this playground, she says Atticus and gets very upset when I say "no", not today. So when Tricia threw out the idea of meeting up on Saturday at this new location, I knew Sophia would be thrilled.

And she was.

Attticus! Where are you?

Is he over there?

No! There he is!

All that build up and then she didn't even hug him hello.

But they had a great time! And the weather was GREAT!!!!!!
Sophia has been doing a lot more independent climbing. She is a very cautious girl.

The rest of the pics really speak for themselves.

There was this birthday happening at the pavilion while we were playing and after the cake etc., some of the kids came over to play. There was this one girl who just took a liking to Sophia. She was even willing to share her party favor blow thing (not sure what you call those) with Sophia. Of course, I interjected on Sophia's behalf and politely told her "That's okay". No need to swap spit with a total stranger.

But that little girl just picked Sophia up like a little doll and carried her around. Sophia loved it! She loves older kids.
Sophia shared some of her cookies with Atticus. I've got to stop making these cookies. Every Friday, for the past 3 weeks I've made cookies if she's had a good week. And she has had GREAT days at school. But I'm thinking the cookies thing might need to go back to being a spontaneous treat.

Oh and Tri, found a new diaper bag! Love it! Target of course!
