Is it Fall Yet?

Every year around this time, I always ask the question, "Is it Fall Yet?". Only because by this point, I'm so sick of the high 90's-100 degree days. And no matter how many times I ask that question, I'm always met with more 100 degree days (You have to be tough to live in Texas for sure). However, this past weekend was the exception. So I'm recording it here on the blog. Our high on Sat. was around 85. Slightly higher on Sun. But we still kept our windows open both days. And this was with full sun! And there was a great breeze. So all in all, perfect weather for the weekend. And I could just feel Fall on the horizon. There is hope!

It was also a momentous day for Texas A & M. They played their first game in the SEC. Didn't win but came really close. Great start to their season (and I always love when Russell's teams win...the whole house is just happier). 

Just had to capture Russell trying to fix Sophia's hair. Too funny! I always know how he's feeling based on his brow. 

And of course, Sophia wanted to take all her bikes, scooters and big wheels for a ride. She can actually reach the pedals now and make it move all by herself.

What a great weekend!

P.S. On a side note, just in case anyone hasn't heard. We no longer have Myra. Amy and Jack really wanted her back, so we gave her back. Broke my heart to hear that Jack was praying each day to get his doggy back. 

One Fun Weekend....Welcome Myra!

To start the weekend off, a sleepover at Nana and Paw-Paw's house on Friday night. Russell and I were celebrating our 14th anniversary. We had planned on going out to eat but once we all got home, we were both ready for comfy clothes so Russell went to our local Asian cuisine vendor, Tom's Asian Cuisine, and picked up to-go food.

And of course the kiddos were having tons of fun without us (thanks for the pics mom)!

When I came to pick up Sophia on Saturday morning, we were also taking home our newest addition to the Kaminski household, Myra. 

She is a mini-dachshund and belongs to my sister Amy. But with Amy's new job and Sophia's loss of Mona, when offered the chance to adopt her, we jumped. She's a super sweet dog. She's super loving and follows me around the house all day.

We are used to cats because of our cats Mona and Leo. But actually Myra is very cat-like in many ways. She is more of a "lap cat" than Mona ever was. 

And Sophia is loving it except for the fact that Myra follows me around instead of Sophia. I think Sophia was disappointed. She wanted a dog that would follow her. BUT, if Sophia keeps sneaking Myra snacks, then I'm sure Myra will eventually love her.

Myra LOVED exploring the backyard....even at 3 am. No pics at 3 a.m. :)

Then on Sunday, it was back to my parent's house to celebrate Labor Day.

Of course, dessert was her favorite thing!

PK Sophia

Since I didn't get very good pictures Monday morning, I decided to try again when she got home. I've been seeing this idea float around Pinterest and couldn't decide if I wanted to go with that or just a plain pic of her. So I took these (a frame that you'd use top frame a canvas, no glass). 

It didn't take long for Sophia to take it into an entirely silly direction.

Then I just had her hold the sign. Which do you like best? I can't decide. maybe I'll do both each year.

4 year olds are easily distracted. She noticed off to the East that it looked like rain.

And was very disappointed we weren't getting any (with all our talk about watering, Sophia must have clued into the free water when we get rain). Russell's influence totally.

Once again, Sophia got silly.

The First Day of School

Monday was very special for Sophia and I. For her, it was her first official day of PK (From here on out, Melanie will be getting them Kindergarten ready. By the end of this year, they should know how to tie their shoes, read at least on a kinder. level etc.). Prior to this year, they were doing pre-kinder. work. Now they'll be doing kinder. work. Ms. Melanie uses the last year with her as a kinder. year (as she is a certified kinder. teacher). So, Sophia picked out a special first day of PK dress and we took a few pics. But the lighting wasn't that great since they left at 6:45 in the morning.

It was also a HUGE day for me. My first day at my new school.  So here's my new art room.

Monday went well. 

Of course for me, I have to repeat the same lesson in some variation, 28 times. So, I'll just say I was a little rusty at first. But by Tuesday, I was in my groove. I'm sure by Thursday, I'll be leaving out important info. But that's just part of it. 

7 Grade levels x 4 classes per grade level= 28 times of introducing the art room, procedures etc. = me loosing my voice by the end of the week= me buying cough drops at Walgreens today. Ha! 

Oh well, by next week, I'll starting new things with each grade level. And I'm really enjoying meeting all of my new kiddos/neighbors!

Like Father, Like Daughter

Sophia is definitely making the shift from mama's girl to daddy's girl. Any chance she has, to spend time with her dad, she takes. Russell had to do a ton of computer work this weekend and Sophia set up her own station across from him. She kept asking him what music he wanted to listen to (that's her white CD player next to her laptop). 

Russell wasn't excited about me taking pictures of him working (although Sophia wasn't either). 

Like I said before, "like father, like daughter".
